About the Band: Elke Baker, 1995 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion, rhythmically inspired pianist Liz Donaldson and versatile bassist and cellist Ralph Gordon have played together as TERPSICHORE since 1992. Named for the Greek Muse of Dance, Terpsichore has performed for enthusiastic listeners and dancers all over the U.S. and abroad. Caledonian Muse and A Dancer’s Best Friend, their latest Scottish Country Dance recording features the trio. Elke and Liz play as a duo on their CD Terpsichore: Scottish Dance Music which has become an indispensable classic of the genre. In addition to being a premier Scottish country dance band, Terpsichore plays regularly for English, contra, and other dances and concerts.
Teacher Biographies: Moira Korus (Toronto): Moira teaches at the Glenview adult social group and the Rosedale children and teen group in Toronto. She learned Scottish country dance as a child in Edinburgh and attained her full teaching certificate in 2006. She has taught the intermediate and advanced branch classes in Toronto as well as the demo pool and has prepared adult dancers for the dancing achievement award as well as children for all levels of medal tests. Moira has also taught at a number of workshops in Ontario and at TAC summer school. When Moira is not dancing, she works at Sick kids in Toronto as a nurse with kidney transplant recipients.
Barbara Johnston (Edmonton): Dancing for Barbara began at a very young age in Carlisle, England, where participating in dance festivals, often adjudicated by Miss Milligan, were yearly events. After entering into the nursing profession, then marriage, children and immigration, dancing took a back seat. While attending a work Christmas party the” Edmonton Caledonian “demo team performed and dancing was back in her life and she hasn’t stopped. Since 1998 she has actively taught adults of all levels and abilities, including performance teams, children and youth classes. She got her full teaching certificate in 2000 at TAC summer school, sat on the TAC board as TAC Corresponding secretary for 6 years and has held many different board positions for the Edmonton Branch. She has been honored and delighted to guest teach throughout Canada, NWT and the USA. She looks forward to sharing her love of dance and music and having some fun with you.
